It has always seemed fascinating to discover a geographical area through its representative restaurants. One can be introduced to the region’s daily life not only by the food which is carefully and passionately prepared after various recipes, depending on the culinary influences in that place, with fresh and carefully combined ingredients, but also by the hospitality of the restaurants or the interior design or architecture of the site.
These factors have a powerful and important word to say in illustrating the life from different corners of the country, by transposing any visitor into the story of each restaurant, told with well-chosen words and lots of love just to be discovered and appreciated. This can awaken one’s interest when it comes to visiting new places or rediscovering those already known and close to the heart.
Every discovery certifies once again that all these factors are true messengers of the geographical area, being able to make a served breakfast or lunch or dinner not only a culinary experience, but also a lesson of culture taught with sincerity by the best pedagogues in taste and beauty: from cooks and waiters to designers and architects. They don’t teach you about all this in any way, but in the most real and palpable way, through the taste of the food, the welcoming environment, the impeccable service or the imposing architecture. All these experiences and reconfirmations enchant every tourist’s heart, especially because, whether you are a native Romanian or a foreigner, traveling in Romania gives you a sense of gratitude for this nation’s ability to understand that, despite the living standards – often more difficult here than abroad –, what matters is to keep your soul clean and full of kindness.
Regardless of the geographic area of Romania you choose to discover, each one has its uniqueness, beauty and unmistakable taste of its food. And do you know why? Because in our country, more than half of its total area is used for agricultural purposes. This helps Romania not only to self-sustain itself in terms of ingredients used in alimentation, but also to use high-quality, healthy and savory ingredients, since technology in the food industry is not that advanced, compared to the one from other developed countries.
In order to enjoy together unique and hard-to-match moments, FindaTable team has prepared for you beautiful surprises in eight Romanian cities. For the time being, it’s about Timisoara, Targu Mures, Sibiu, Iasi, Constanta, Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest and Brasov, but we will soon discover together another town from the 320 that exist in our beautiful country, Romania.
TIMISOARA
The city of Timisoara, also considered the capital of the region called Banat, impresses its visitors not only with its imposing buildings and old architecture so well preserved over the years, but also with the abundant dishes. Because, just like the saying goes, “Banatu’s the forehead of the country”.
TARGU MURES
Renowned for the musical instruments with which it has rejoiced the entire country, as well as several other countries beyond the borders, Targu Mures cannot welcome you otherwise but cheerfully and open-heartedly. And since Romanians love to drink and eat together, Targu Mures comes on the top when it comes to its cuisine as well.
SIBIU
Known and visited by foreigners for its large number of German speakers who live there due to the colonization of the Saxons in Transylvania, Sibiu is remarkable both for its economic development in the recent years and for some of the tourist attractions, like Paltinis or Balea Lake, which are at a little distance from it. As for its food, “zama de crechita” and “tapsele” are the pride of Sibiu, and you have to try them too.
IASI
Iasi, still considered by Romanians the capital of Moldavia, will enchant you with its sweet Moldavian accent, Eminescu's linden tree from the Copou Park, the Palace of Culture and many other pleasant surprises, which are eagerly waiting for you to discover them. In terms of food, a Moldavian “tochitura”, “tocineii casei” or some “poale-n brau” are all you could wish for.
CONSTANTA
Constanta Harbor occupies the 4th place in Europe in terms of size and it is certified to be the oldest city on the territory of our country. Having in mind it is a harbor city, its traditional food, which is based on fish, represents a great attraction among tourists and locals.
CLUJ-NAPOCA
Located in the center of Transylvania, Cluj-Napoca is the second largest city in Romania in terms of population. Being a strong business, academic, cultural center, etc., when it comes to investments, Cluj-Napoca is wished-for not only by Romanians, but also by foreigners. In terms of gastronomy, “kurtos kalacs” or the plum cookie are the food celebrities of the city.
BUCURESTI
The city of Bucharest is also the capital of Romania. Like almost any other capital in the world, it is remarkable due to its large number of inhabitants and to its prosperous economy. Since all these are aspects of interest for the neighboring countries, Bucharest has been experiencing a growing population in the last years. This aspect has had beneficial influences on its cuisine as well, so the capital of the country stands out for the significant variety of international restaurants you can find there.
BRASOV
Brasov is considered by many people to be the most beautiful city in Romania. Moreover, thanks to the short distance between Brasov and some winter resorts, such as Poiana Brasov, Predeal or Sinaia, this charming city has become one of the main tourist attractions over the years. This status has also made an impact on its food recipes, Brasov’s pancakes, “tochitura”, or “bulz” being just some of the culinary delicacies of the city.
In the hope that FindaTable is going to be your trustworthy friend, we can hardly wait to enjoy together some extraordinary culinary and cultural experiences!
